I also have a goat with the scours this morning. I am hoping that someone can give me a hint as well. The things she usually takes eagerly when she has scours she will not take this morning, which worries me. She is older - almost 8 years old. Nothing has changed except the sourdough yesterday.
She has been eating sourdough starter (about 2 cups) every day for weeks. She eats it like candy!! You'd think it was the only thing she got to eat all day!LOL Yesterday my starter was really thin - I let it go too long without feeding it - so I added some flour to it before I took it out to her. That is the only difference that I can think of. She got about 1/4-1/2 cup of wheat flour added to the sourdough right before I fed it to her. I am thinking wheat may not be so good for goats...the starter is 100% wheat flour, but of course it is usually broken down by the active sourdough. It has done wonders for her health and energy overall!
So now what can I do? She usually takes soda, peach leaves (only a few and only if she needs them - sometimes she won't eat them. I know there is concern about peach leaves/tannins, but she takes them medicinally and has never had a problem.) I usually give her garlic cloves as well, but I don't have any. The only thing I haven't tried that I would normally do is probiotics.
Should I wait 24 hours to let it clear? She has been old and fragile, but has really been better for the last few months (since taking sourdough). I am just not sure how long I should wait before I worry about the scours. We found clumps in the goat shed this morning, but now she is to a fairly liquid elimination. Any suggestions? And any thoughts on wheat?
