Good morning all! I have an adult Kiko/Boer cross that has had serious scours now for 3 days, I have done a fecal, not a large worm load, no coccidia present . I have given pepto, waiting on the fecal, wormed her with cydectin on Friday of last week, (eyelids pink by the way) I have given mineral oil and red cell. I have the di-methox 40% but, since there wasn't coccidia, I don't want to medicate if I don't need to. I have also given her some yogurt, she is definatley not interested in eating any grain, she is eating hay with the others in the herd. Took a temp yesterday and it was 101.3. This is very runny but has no blood in it. she is covered all the way down her butt to her hocks!!! I want to try the cinnamon but have no slippery elm and no health food store in sight!!!! ( we live in a VERY small area). Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

I would keep her on Red Cell and Electrolytes Plus. This will help replenish any nutrients lost because of the scours. Try to get her to drink lots of water. The Electrolytes Plus are good because you can add them right to her water and they taste good so it might encourage her to drink. She can get dehydrated fast. If you don't have Electrolytes Plus then try adding molasses, karo, sugar, whatever to her water to get her to drink more of it. Add a pinch of table salt to help with electrolyte balance. To keep her rumen in check I would give Probios or live culture yogurt. She will need new good bacteria to help take the place of the stuff that was wiped out by the scours. You can add the cinnamon to the yogurt. Also go to the One-Click section and look for the Magic recipe. This stuff will help with scours.
Did you change her feed? Is she pregnant? Has there been any change in where she was living or eating?
You did not mention E-COLI , with a good fecal , no coccdi ? I would treat for E-coli , when I get one with the trots I treat for both! Di-methox and neomicin with some cinn and yougart mixed , meds in the am and yougart in the p.m , I also give some B vit, A,D,E vit as well as some Bo-se ,red cell etc. It may seem extreme but it has worked for me. At the start of the trots I treat for both , if that does not do it then the vit and yougart, cinn come in , red cell and eletro if they start to get in bad shape, 5 days + with no change . The one click refrence will help on doses- meds .It has to be a rumen problem most often worms , e-coli , or coccdi , do you trust your vets fecal?
Who turned on the eletric fence without telling me? X#!
DONNIE: Thanks so much for the reply, I do trust my vet with fecals, however it may have set a while, (dropped it off with the girls in the office). She is doing better though, so something is working! Is this regular cinnamon to mix in? (never have tried that). Still giving the red cell, and electrolytes. Thanks again for your help Patricia
