Where have people found a good source for DE (diatomaceous earth)? I know you can order it through health food stores and stuff but they can be really expensive. I found some on the internet but was wondering how much people were paying? Any help would be great.

Yeah, I would rather use DE than lyme. I have been putting wood stove ashes around instead of lyme lately. I just make sure there are not metal pieces in the ashes and we don't burn plastics or anything chemical except paper anyways. I only use the ashes where there won't be goats going in for a few days so it can soak into the ground. Seems to work to keep the smells down.
I found 50lb of food grade DE for $67 with shipping so I think I will order that and start using it for parasite control both internally and externally.
Be VERY careful about putting wood ashes out. Wood ashes, especially hardwood ashes make LYE when they come in contact with moisture, this includes urine. Lye will burn the skin. Any of you who make soap will know what I mean.

I ordered some online.
Here's the next question: Can I put some out for my chickens to take dust baths in? Will the fine-ness of the particles hurt their respiratory systems? I would like to let them bathe in it so it will help with the chicken lice and mites.
