My pet goats refuses all food... tried all food. I went toi the goat vet yesterday and he gave her injections and infusions... last night she eat a little fruit veggies... but goat feed. Thos morning she touched nothing... back to the vet... this one is in the same practice and he checked her all over.... gums... tummy ect can't find anything wrong with her either... what could be wrong. she is 11 1/2 years old. Now I saw her in the stall and saw that her urin is pink. My husband said she had that this mornign... unfortunately he did not tell mye so I could let the vet know... why is ipt pink... Any help would be appreciated. Liz
Hi, We need a few questions answered before we can help here. What is her temperature? What did the vet give her? When was the last time she was wormed and with what and at what dosage? What are you feeding? How is she other wise, ie activity level? How much water is she drinking and how often is she peeing?
yes there are alot of questions, but they are very important for us to be able to help.
She could have a bladder infection.
Most vets really don't know goats. They do a lot of educated guessing.
we have fed her normal goat feed from the store, she also eats grass. the vet gave her glucose stuff and infusions Friday and sat. Friday we saw the goat vet and then sat we saw a regular vet because the goat vet was not there. Yesterday we gave her more sugary stuff which we had to force feed. She had some worms Friday so he gave her a short but sat the vet did not see any in the new sample.
She did 'hide' in her little goat house. Now she is by herself in the horse stall so we can keep her brother away and keep the food out. We have hay for her... coastal and alfalfa... reg goat food without molasses and with and some oats. I tried to give her fruits which she loved but she sniffs and eats nothing...
My regular vet goat is on vacation and that makes it even harder.. I am at the end of my rope.. we bought some honey and will force feed her that today.
She is standing around now... and even jumps on the little house we have in the horsestall... so is still has energy.... what to do next I don't know?? thanks for your help. Liz
My regular goat vet is back and she did a thorough check up. My poor little pet goat has liver fluke... I put her out on the field this morning and she ate a little. Also bought peanut hay... which she did not eat. So we give her meds and the vet gave a shot we will also s give a short to her brother and now for 5 days we give them both oral meds. Hopefully she will perk up. I hope she wants to be out in the sunshine... it has been getting warmer now too. Liz
Hi, Glad to hear you got a diagnosis. I am assuming she is also anemic. You should put her on an iron supplement like geritol. give her the adult dosage. This will help her build back up quicker. I am not familiar with liver flukes, sorry. (Doing Research) I know Brandywine will know something about this, and will be able to offer better advice than me. Keep up your good work!
Thank you.... so glad I have a good regular vet. Thanks for the geritol advice I will do that. Good news.. she was actually grazing this morning and she even ate some regular goat food. It has been easier to give the med to the male goat who pushed us into one heap the other day... so things are looking up... I feel so much better now. She loves going in the pond and it has been pretty mucky recently and it has something to do with snails. Liz
