This is also used when there are abortion storms. Can cause does to abort, so care must be used. Can interfere w/bone & teeth development in kids, both utero and nursing. Once the liquid becomes very dark due to oxidizing, the injections are painful. Milk makes this drug ineffective

Excenel (Prescription)

1 cc per 25 lbs once daily

Respiratory illnesses & foot rot

This is a 2nd generation Penicillin, very potent.

Goats love the berry and orange flavors so this is very easy to give. Can give 2 times a day for 1 week, then you need to take a couple day break to allow it to work out of the system.

Pain killer, fever reducer. Also helps relieve coughing

Over dosing and prolonged use can cause ulcers, and kidney stones. Can also cause goats to be lethargic. Helps reduce kidney damage in animals that have enterotoxaemia

Aspirin

1 regular aspirin per 10 lbs

Pain killer, fever reducer.

Do not give to animals that are bleeding, as it can interfere with clotting

Preparation H

Light smearing

Helps relieve pain and swelling on does vulvas

Generic is fine to use. This helps when it is applied lightly to the vulva after a hard kidding or when you have had to help deliver a kid

BoSe, MuSe (Prescription) Selenium & Vitamin E

BoSe= 1 cc per 40 lbs(see notes for kids) MuSe=1 cc per 200 lbs

White Muscle Disease, Weak legs in kids, Fertility, Selenium Deficiency

Must be gotten from a Veterinarian

Give by SQ injections to everyone. Weak legged kids can receive their 1st dose orally. Give 1/4-1/2 cc on back of tongue. It can take up to 10 days for any selenium/Vit E product to have full affects. Be very careful on estimating weights, as selenium can be easily overdosed. MuSe isn't recommended for use in goats due to its strength.

Selenium & Vitamin E Gel

Vitamin A is essential for the lining surfaces such as the windpipe, gut, bronchi, urinary tract etc. When there is a deficiency diarrhea and respiratory diseases are likely to occur. Also Night blindness and abortions. Can repeat dosage in 15-30 days. Can be toxic if over used.

Vitamin D

Poor growth, poor use of feed

The goat is able to make a certain amount of Vitamin D in their skin when they are in sunlight.

CD= Clostridium Perfringens T= Tetanus Shouldn't be given to kids under 1 month old, as their system isn't able to utilize it. Repeat dose in 3-4 weeks, then once yearly. Second dose is needed in order to be effective. This vaccine may cause knots in and around the injection site.
