Hi!
I have a doe who I think has "udder congestion". She kidded about 1 month ago and I let her dam raise her twin bucks. Her udder looked OK at first but it looked as if her boys were always trying to eat and didn't have the typical "pot bellies" babies can have so I kept watching her to see if she was producing enough milk as her udder never looked empty. Her kids are growing OK and the doe is not off feed or feverish etc but this last week I took her out and was examining her udder and it feels very hard. It is not warm or feverish at all, but it feels rather beefy and I'm afraid there isn't much milk tissue in her udder? I did a CMT and the solution didn't turn gel-like for either side. I've tried massaging peppermint balm into her udder for the past 3 days but I don't think it's getting any better. Does anybody have any ideas for me? I'm stumped. This is a first freshening 2y/o who is in otherwise good health. Help!! Thanks!!

Meaty udders can be hereditary. Do you have her mother or know what type udder she had. Did this doe have a lot of congestion when she kidded or did you check her when she was fresh?
Welcome to Goatwisdom. Loads of info and really nice people here. Glad to have you.

Hi,
I don't have her mother, I bought this doe as a dry yearling last year but she comes from a long line of very nice does. She seems to have had this problem since she first freshened. She was also bottle fed past. milk so I know she doesn't have CAE. I haven't seen any does from this particular buck though and maybe its something from his side? Thanks!
