Where do you obtain Epinephrine if the vet won't sell and the feed store doesn't carry it? I was hoping someone could tell me, I posted over a week ago, but haven't had any responses.

I do not know where to get Epinephrine either, but you might try another vet. Of course it would be a good idea to tell the vet why you feel you should keep it on hand.

Yes, what we're referring is to synthetic adrenaline to use as a counter agent to allergic reactions the goats may have to meds given.

Epinephrine is basically the same as adrenaline. It is produced by the adrenal medula and create a flight or fight response of the sympathetic nervous system. This is what you give a person directly in the heart when it has stopped. This is also what you inject if you have anaphylactic shock. This is the use for goats. If you vaccine for tetanus and your goat goes into shock then you need to administer this asap. Chances are that it is cheaper just to take the chance unless he or she is a beloved one.

Epi is cheap through your vet or a vet supply place that will sell to you. I will not be caught with out it. I pay under $5.00 a bottle and then am assured I can save a life if needed. I have heard that some asthma inhalers will do the same thing, but I don't have experience with that.

Cheryl, Have you ever had a goat go into shock? My vet and I have a very good working relationship and when I asked for Epi he said in his 21 years of practice he only had one animal go into shock and it was a dog. He did give me 2 doses and told me they would keep for a very long time in the fridge. I think it cost me $1 for the 2 and that was in the syringe with a needle. For that cost I can throw them away every year and get a couple more if need be. I vaccinate upwards of 70 head of animals each year (sheep, goats, horses, alpacas, cats) with no problems. I am surprised that the vets won't even give out 1 or 2 doses. Like I said my vet and I do pretty well. He doesn't know much about sheep or goats but is very willing to learn and when I get suggestions from here or the other good web sites he has never not given me what I think I need to try. Sometimes it may be cheaper to go to TSC but there is no guarentee that they will have what I want and they are 50 miles away. Cindy Honeysuckle Farm
